Hi SK Parents!

We had a fabulous day in GRADE 1! The students were so excited to experience a full day in grade 1. They were so respectful towards their classmates and myself, and I cannot wait to teach them next year!

Reminders:

1.    I sent home their report cards from Ms. Chang and Ms. Genco.  I had them put the report cards directly into their bag.

2.    Parent Teacher Interviews will be held on Thursday, December 4^th, 2014.

Name Game and Christmas Name Trees

I wanted to get to know the students a little more, so we played the name game! The students had to say their names with action. They got really into it. We then made Christmas trees with our names.

Math

Today we focused on graphing. Each student got a bag of red and green skittles, along with a graphing worksheet. They made a bar graph with the two colours, and answered questions on the back. This was to teach them the proper words to use when explaining a graph. After they completed their work, they got to eat the skittles, which they absolutely loved.

UOI

In grade 1, we learn about dinosaurs in UOI! We read a funny story about dinosaur in underpants! They then wrote about their favorite part of the story and then got to colour their own underpants! We didn’t get a chance to finish this activity, so I sent the booklet home for the kids to colour!

Language

In grade 1, we focus on “The Daily Five” in language. These centers focus on reading and writing. We did Christmas themed centers. The students wrote about their favourite part of a story we read, they used to stamps to create Christmas sight words, they worked phonics, and they also “read to self”. They loved this!

I had a lot of fun with SK’s today and I really hope to see them next year in my class!

Fantastic Friday

Hi Parents, 

Today the children were in GRADE 2! I miss my class already! 

Reminders: 

1. Spelling Test Monday 

2. Math Test Monday - I had interviews with all the students yesterday as they worked on extra practice  sheets during class. I pointed our their mistakes and explained how to properly answer the question.

3. Caroling Club - Field trip on Friday, December 5th, 2014 - If your child is apart of caroling club, please be sure to send them to school with warm clothes! If you have not yet sent the permission form, please be sure to do so before Wednesday. 

I know this week has been very busy, so thank you for support.

*Tis The Season *

Hello Parents!

Thank you very much for sending in the permission for today’s Christmas tree decorating ceremony. The children had an excellent time, and it was very nice to see them involved in the community. There will be no homework as the students had all their specialty courses in the morning. They did not write in their agenda in today!

There are a few important dates to keep in mind for the next couple of weeks

1. Friday, November 28^th, 2014: Year Ahead Day! The grade 1’s will have an opportunity to see what is like to be in Grade 2! They will be going to Ms. Jaskolka’s class, which is located in M8. The students are asked to go directly to this room in the morning, so they are able to experience a full day in Grade 2!

2. Thursday, December 4^th, 2014: Parent Teacher Interviews

3. Wednesday, December 17^th, 2014: CHRISTMAS CONCERT at 7pm! The students are asked to wear black pants and either a plain red or plain green top. We are also asking that the students wear suspenders, as they are dressing like elves! I wanted to let everyone know in advance, so you have plenty of time to get these items J

4. This year, we are also performing the Christmas Concert during the day on Tuesday, December 16^th, at 11:45am.  Everyone is more welcomed to come and watch either performance, as we would like all parents see the show! 

Cloud in a CUP

Our science experiment went very well yesterday! The students really enjoyed investigating the amount of water theur cloud could hold.

The students will be using chart paper to brainstorm organization. They could use pictures, numbers or words in order to express their ideas.

UOI Summatives

Hi Parents,

All the students did an excellent job on their summative projects! I am so proud of all of them, and I would like them to share their marks with their parents. I have put the rubrics in a plastic cover, and have sent them home with all students. I am kindly asking that they come back to school tomorrow in the plastic so we can put them in our UOI portfolios! Thanks so much for all your help and have a great night :)

Math

Students will be completing their review sheets today in class today. We will be reviewing major concepts together, and then students will be given a chance to complete their review.

UOI – Unit of Inquiry

Today we started a brand new unit! We will be working on organization. We started off by organizing holidays. The students reflected on organization and wrote down three major things they would like to learn this unit.  

Spelling

Students copied down the words from the board 3 times, and wrote their sentences. Then, the students completed their work in their notebooks.
