Reminder for NEXT WEEK!

I sent home a letter yesterday regarding the summative project coming up for our current Unit of Inquiry! We will need pictures and information so the children can work on their project next week in class. Thanks for all your help!

WE'RE GOING PREHISTORIC!

Four our next Unit of Inquiry Unit, we are studying where we are in place and time. We will be learning about dinosaurs! Last year, the grade 1's had a great time with this unit! As part of the learning process, we took the students to their ROM! They were able to make some great connections with what we learned. Even though the trip will be in November, we have already booked because it does fill up fast. I sent the form home yesterday, so please send the money along with the permission form asap! I already have 1volunteer, and I am looking for 2 more! Please let me know if you are interested in coming :)

Our Day

French – Mme. Stella

Visual Art
Today we made owls using the shape of pumpkins!!

Gym – Ms. Lovan

Math
Today the students continued working with numbers! We used the overhead to figure out the number rule. The students were presented with number combinations of the same number, which they had to figure out.

UOI – Unit of Inquiry
Today we continued to study rules! We learned about the GOLDEN RULE! “TREAT OTHERS THE WAY YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE TREATED.” We read a story about this, and the students got to colour nice quotes to give to a friend.

Writing
We are moving on from nouns, to verbs, to ADJECTIVES! Students will listen to a story after we review adjectives. They will raise their hand every time they hear an adjective, and we will record it on the board! Students will then work in table groups to come up with as many adjectives as they can for Thanksgiving.

Have a great night!

I hope that everyone has a great weekend! It is supposed to be beautiful outside, so enjoy the sunshine! I'm looking for some help! I bought a big bottle of hand sanitizer at the beginning of the year, but with everyone getting sick, our class has almost used it all up. If everyone could kindly bring a bottle in, that would really help out. I'm trying my best to keep our class healthy :)

Things to Remeber
- I handed out a hoodie order form today! Please send in all orders before October 3rd

Our Day

French – Mme. Stella

Visual Art
Today in visual art we made glitter leaves to decorate our classroom for fall!

Gym – Ms. Lovan

Math
Today the students worked with objects to arrange numbers in various ways. For example, they would put 2 objects in a pile, and 3 objects in another pile to show the number 5. They then practiced this skill in their Math Makes Sense books. This was a hard lesson for the students to wrap their heads around, so before we move on, I would like to revisit this lesson on Monday.

UOI – Unit of Inquiry
Today we started off by watching a video “What if everyone did that”. Then, students completed a worksheet where they create four new scenes for the book. Students were encouraged to write in the same style as the author by beginning their sentences with, "What if everyone..." Underneath the sentence, students drew a picture of what would happen if everyone did what they wrote about.

Novel Study
Today we read chapter 3, and we then we made sleeping bags for our Flat Stanley’s!

Journal
Journal:  Pretend you are a fall leaf about to fall to the ground. Explain your journey throughout the seasons (4 sentences and a picture)

Have a weekend!

Now that understand that rules play a huge role in many places, like school, and at home, we are going to see how rules also play a big role when we even play games! We went outside and play Soccer Baseball. Together we went through the rules of the game. When we finished, the students explained how the rules were important and how the game would not work without any rules.

Writing
Today we are doing a writing activity regarding the changes we see in Fall! I have noticed that the students are having some trouble remembering sequencing of a story. Today we reviewed this as a class, and brainstormed ideas on the board. Then, they practiced this skill individually.
