December 5, 2013
Good evening everyone. I am so sorry for not being able to
make the parent-teacher interviews last night. I have not been feeling well
this past week, but I am slowly getting better. I will pick a day to
re-schedule and let you all know very soon. I know there was some confusion
regarding the last day of school. Thursday, December 19th, 2013 will
be the last day of school, and it will be a full day. THERE WILL BE NO SCHOOL on Friday, December 20th, 2013.
The Christmas concert will be on Wednesday, December 18th 2013 at
7:00pm. Please don’t miss it, the students have been working super hard J Take a look at our
day;
Math
Grade 1
Students had to make a sandwich that costs 6 cents. They
had to solve this problem and then we discussed this at the carpet. We went
over how to count money. They then had to do the same thing with a pizza in
their math workbooks.
Homework:
MMS: pg. 57 – 58
Grade 2
Students learned
how to subtract using 2 digit numbers using word problems. Using another word problem,
students will write number sentences to figure out the problem. The students
had some trouble with this as I feel they rush over the words and don’t
understand them fully. I am going to revisit this lesson on Monday.
Homework:
MMS: pgs. 104-107
UOI
Since both Mr.
Monaghan, and myself have been ill the past few days, we used this UOI time to
catch up on some math, and our IB binders, which we had to organize. We also
used the last few minutes to make snowman using a set of directions. This
taught the students the importance of directions, which we then linked to the
importance of organization.
Spelling
Both grade 1’s
and 2’s wrote their spelling test today.
Language
Using our letter
writing skills, the students wrote a letter to Santa!
Grade 1: 5 -6
sentences
Grade 2: 8 – 9
sentences
Phonics FUN!
We used Christmas
centers to practices our adjectives, nouns, and compounds words
Journals
Students wrote
about their ride on Santa’s sleigh. I wanted them to really use their imagination
and the Christmas nouns and adjectives we have been studying.
