December 11, 2013
Good evening
parents! Hope to see everyone at the Christmas concert next week on Wednesday,
December 18th, 2013. Just wanted to remind everyone that the last
day of school is on Thursday, December 19th, 2013. That is also
spirit day! The students are encouraged to come to school in red, white, and
green! Take a look at our day;
Math
Grade 1
The grade 1’s
completed their math test today! They did really well.
Grade 2
Today in math,
the grade 2’s worked on problem solving. We are focusing on what the problem is
telling us, and what it is we need to figure out. They children get a little
nervous when it comes to problem solving, so I have having them read over the
questions a couple times before they ask for help.
MMS: 11O-111
UOI
Grade 1
We completed
another step in our brainstorming package today! The students had to say what
the problem of their story is, as well of the solution. Their imaginations are
incredible!
Grade 2
The grades two’s
had to pick a structure, which they would have seen over the weekend. They had
to state what materials were used to create the structure, and if they were
man-made, or natural. They also had to explain why those materials were used
for such a structure.
Language
The students
worked on their language skills in their letters and sounds workbooks.
Grade 1
Letters and sounds pgs. 61 – 62
Grade 2
Letter and Sounds
pgs. 48 – 49
We read a book
today that discussed how people can be “thinkers” which is the learner profile
of the month of December. After, they had to discuss how the main character
displayed this learner profile, and then they had to think about a time when
they themselves were a thinker.
Novel Study
Today we read
more pages in our “Winnie the Pooh” novel. We discussed that Eeyore always
loses his tail. Based on what we read, the students worked in pairs to
brainstorm where his tail may be.
