Happy Friday


Please check out upcoming announcements:

1. I sent home a letter regarding poems! This is for an oral contest held at St. Jude’s every year! Each child received a poem yesterday, which they are expected to memorize for February 20th, 2015!
2. Science Centre: Next Thursday, February 5th, 2015! Please make sure students are dressed in their full St. Jude’s Uniform. It is much easier if students bring disposal bags and water bottles for their lunches.J

Visual Arts
We continued with our Valentines Day theme! We learned how to say, “I love you” in sign language! Then we traced our hands, and created an I love you poster!


Gym – Ms. Lovan

Math
Student will estimate objects in a jar! Then they will count them by 10’s in order to practice skip counting.
MMS: pgs. 143 – 145

Unit of Inquiry
Students today had the period to work on their radio ads!

Writers Workshop
We practiced a recount writing activity today! The students will be doing an assessment soon based on a recount so I would like to get them in the hang of it now.

We started our brand new unit today!
We were looking at patterns, but this unit we will be looking at patterns in numbers.

Unit of Inquiry
We continued to look cars today and they have evolved over time! They got to design their very own car today and talk about their features.

Daily 5
We continued to explore writing, reading, and word skills in our daily 5. We also used the tablet to listen to reading and work on words!

Unit of Inquiry
Today we learned about the car! We learned about Henry Ford and how he created an assembly line system in order to make cars faster! Using this practice, we had our own assembly line and created cars.

Writers Workshops
With the DRA assessments coming up, I fell it is important for students to practice making text-self connections. We read a story, practiced retelling it as a class, and then students got to make text-self connections independently.

Today we made some Valentine Day crafts!
We used our fingers to paint around the word “Love”. They turned out great!

Gym – Ms. Lovan

Math
Today we took up the math review together as a class, and the students were able to ask any questions they had regarding this unit. Then they got use the rest of the time to study as I circulated the class.
This units test will be next Tuesday, January 27th, 2015.

Unit of Inquiry
We began reading a book called “Hooray for Inventors”. We then brainstormed why inventions are important to us. The students then wrote a journal response as to why inventions are important to them (5 – 6 sentences with a picture)

Spelling
The students wrote the new spelling words 3 times from the board, along with their sentences. Then they practiced using these words in their spelling workbook.
