Welcome back
everyone!! I hope that all families had a nice and relaxing holiday season. Now
that we are in a brand new calendar, there are some new announcements I would
like to share with you.
1.
Students
will now have the opportunity to work on our new tablets. We are implementing a
designated time period during the week so students are able to exercise the use
of technology in the classroom. This is really exciting, as the kids absolutely
love to work with technology.
2. Snuggle up and Read: I was having some trouble getting my books
back with the snuggle up and read program, however I know this program
motivates the students to read at home, so I would like to continue it! I will
have a sign in and out sheet now for each student (like a library). If the
children do bring back their books every Monday, they will not get to sign out
a new one. Your assistance with this is greatly appreciated!
Parents should also be writing down the minutes on the calendar so I can track
how much they are reading! For every 100 minutes, they will get a stick to add
to their log J
3. Registration Packages went home just before the holidays. I hope
to see every back next year! Please be sure to register as soon as possible, as
these spots fill up quickly.
4. International Day will be held this year on Friday, January 23rd,
2015. I am still waiting the time to be finalized for when parents are able to
come in and took a look at the all the different countries explored at SJA! The
students will be learning about Italy. I am so excited to explore this country
with the class, especially since I am Italian J. Students will be using their own information
to learn about Italy. I am asking that each child print off some basic
information regarding our country, so we can work on this next week! Thank you
for you help!

Art – Mr. Monghan

Math
We continued to learn about data
management and probability. Today we focused on the probability aspect of this
unit! We explored some things we “always”, “sometime” , and “never” do as
students and related this to probability. The students then practiced this
skill in their MATH MAKES SENSES!
UNIT TEST: Monday, January 12th, 2015. The students will receive their review on Friday which we will go over
in class, and then taken home in order to study.
Unit of Inquiry
As our organization unit is coming to
an end, the students learned how we even organize our year! We did this by
learning about goals, and how to set them. The students then made their very
own 2015 goals!
Language: Daily 5
Daily five consists of 5 centers, which
the students rotate through.
Station 1: Listen to Reading (on my computer, they
follow along with a story)
Station 2: Read to Self (students practice their
reading skills on their own)
Station 3: Read to Someone (students read with a
partner)
Station 4: Word Work (Phonics) Today they worked on
vowel blends
Station 5: Work on Writing (Journal Entry) The
students reflected on their holidays!
Have a wonderful evening!
Ms. Rossi
