Welcome back
everyone!! I hope that all families had a nice and relaxing holiday season. Now
that we are in a brand new calendar, there are some new announcements I would
like to share with you.
1.
Students
will now have the opportunity to work on our new tablets. We are implementing a
designated time period during the week so students are able to exercise the use
of technology in the classroom. This is really exciting, as the kids absolutely
love to work with technology.
2. Snuggle up and Read: I was having some trouble getting my books
back with the snuggle up and read program, however I know this program
motivates the students to read at home, so I would like to continue it! I will
have a sign in and out sheet now for each student (like a library). If the children
do bring back their books every Monday, they will not get to sign out a new
one. Your assistance with this is greatly appreciated!
Parents should also be writing down the minutes on the calendar so I can track
how much they are reading! For every 100 minutes, they will get a stick to add
to their log J
3. Registration Packages went home just before the holidays. I hope
to see every back next year! Please be sure to register as soon as possible, as
these spots fill up quickly.
4. International Day will
be held this year on Friday, January 23rd, 2015. We will be in the
gym from 2:30pm to 3:20pm. At this time, parents are able to come in and explore
the other countries! The students will be learning about
Italy. I am so excited to explore this country with the class, especially since
I am Italian J. Students will be using their own information to learn about Italy.
I am asking that each child print off some basic information regarding our
country, so we can work on this next week! Thank you for you help!
Take a look at our day:
French – Mme. Stella
Visual Art - Today we made some name art using our
cursive techniques, and all the various types of lines that we learned out! The
students got super creative with this!
Gym – Ms. Lovan
Math
Today in math we completed the math
makes sense review in our workbooks. We talked about what we liked and didn’t
like throughout the unit. The students then completed their work review in the
textbooks. I will be sending home their workbooks tonight so all parents can
begin going through workbooks.
UNIT TEST: Monday, January 12th, 2015. The students will receive their review on Friday which we will go
over in class, and then taken home in order to study.
Unit of Inquiry
Today the students watched an Author
episode about his MESSY room. We paused the video and talked about how Author
can ORGANIZE HIS MESS! We finished watching the video so see if our predictions
were correct.
Cursive Writing
HWT: pgs. 48 – 49
The students started writing in cursive
today!
Novel Study
We continued with our Winnie the Pooh
novel! We read a few pages as a class, and then I showed them the sign that
Christopher Robin was trying to write! We looked at all the spelling errors
together and tried to spell them correctly as a class!
Have a wonderful evening!
Ms. Rossi
