Happy Friday
everyone! There are a lot of announcements today! I sent home the interview
times last night with the students. If there are any problems or cancelations
please send me an email as soon as possible. Report card were handed out and
sent home with the children today. The Christmas concert will be December 18th,
2013 and the St. Jude’s gala will take place on February 22nd 2014.
Both events will be a lot of fun, so I hope to see you all there! I also sent
home some scholastic order booklet. If your children would like to purchase a
book, please send in the money and order form by December 13th,
2013. The St. Jude’s Christmas drive will also be beginning next week, so if
you have any food you would like to donate that would be greatly appreciated. Take a
look at our day today;
Math
Grade 1
Students learned
about the hour hand and the minute hand. We used a clock to change the time,
and learn about the hours, and minutes.

MMS: pg. 51-52
Grade 2
Today the grade
2’s reviewed how to add numbers with 2 digits. Using a problem of how many
animals were sat the fair, the students worked on adding the number of animals
together. Not only did we work on addition, we worked on the steps needed to
solve a problem.

UOI
Grade 1
Since we have
been talking about organization, today we began talking about disorganization,
and why it is had to find things when it is messy. Then, they had to draw what
the class would look like if it was disorganized!
Grade 2
The grade 2’s
worked on their structure unit today! They filled out a sheet based on the
various types of structures and the materials used for them. The grade 2’s had
to think about what materials are used for our houses, sky scrappers, etc.
Spelling
Both grades
completed their spelling test today.
Language
Together as a
class, we talked about Christmas. Then we thought of various adjectives to
describe Christmas. They are really starting to get the hang of this. After,
they had to write a descriptive piece of their favorite memories of Christmas.
Phonics FRIDAY!
Today the we used
canters to practice our syllables, compound words, adjectives, verbs, nouns,
and telling time

Good evening
everyone, and Happy Friday! Now that winter had officially arrived, I just
wanted to remind all parents to please send hats and mitts/gloves to school for
recess! Also if the students would like to play in the snow, they must have

Grade 1
As a class we
reviewed addition and subtraction families. They then worked on their math
skills in their arithmetic books.

Grade 2
The grade twos
reviewed how to add and subtract double digits. They then worked on their math
skills in their arithmetic books.

Grade 1
Today the grade
ones watched a clip about organization, and how students can keep their things
organized within the classroom. They then had to decide how they would organize
their cubby and desk, and explain it using words.
Grade 2
Today the grade 2s learned more about structures from the expert Bill Nye the science guy. After watching the short video students discussed different aspects of structures that they covered in the video.

The students
worked on their cursive writing in their workbooks, then in cursive writing they
had to make their own name tags and write down words that describe them around

Take a look at our day today;
Math
Grade 1
We are using
words like; long, longer, longest to compare time. We looked at various
activities and discussed what activity takes the longest, and comparing the
different activities shown on the big math book. We then compared time, using
walking, jumping, and singing exercises.

Grade 2
We discussed the
different ways to add these three numbers together before we began the lesson. Students learned to “find 10 strategy”
Students will
learn that it is easier to find numbers that add to “10” first.

Grade 1
Today we
discussed the importance of organization. The students then got a chance to brainstorm
in groups what organization means to them. They thought of great ideas.
Grade 2
Today the grade 2s turned the classroom into a game show as the grade twos made groups to compete in “NAME THAT MATERIAL!” Students would be shown a picture of an item and have to name what material it was made of. We discussed as a group the importance of using the proper material when building a structure or item.

Today, both the
grade 1’s and grade 2’s worked on a retell activity. As a class, we read we
read a story, and orally worked on ways the retell the story using as much
detail as possible. I am focusing on getting the students to remember the
characters, the settings, the problem, the solution, and what happened at the
beginning, the middle, and the end.
After we talked
about this orally, the students filled out a worksheet based on the things we
discussed in class.

Hi everyone! The
author visit went great today! The students were extremely interested in listening
to the story, and they even got to ask the author questions! It was a great
experience. Take a look at our day;

The grade 1’s
finished their math assessments that started last week!
Grade 2
The grade 2’s
worked in their arithmetic workbooks today. They began unit 2, which deals with
word problems, as well as the skills they have been practicing so far.
