November 4th, 2013
Good morning everyone! Hope everyone had a great weekend!
Just wanted to remind all parents that construction for the new playground and
parking lot began today so there will be no parking for the next couple of
weeks. Please be sure to park on Campobello road and send your children in.
There will be teachers there from 8:00AM to 8:30AM to help send students into
the school. I also wanted to remind all grade 1 parents that we are going to
the ROM on Wednesday, November 6th 2013. Tomorrow will be the very last day to hand in
permission forms and money. This will be a great experience for all students,
so please have them in for tomorrow if you would like your child to attend.
Here is a look at our day today;
Math
Grade 1
Today we practiced building numbers
from 1-10 on the ten frame, while discussing the proper rules for building and
how we can compare numbers. We played the Ten Frame
Game: Students were given an opportunity to come and show their favorite number
using the Ten-Frame. Then they had to explain how many more or less it was from
10. We reviewed the rules for using the ten frame, and then explained MMS pgs.
31-32 before students had the opportunity to complete these pages on their own.
Grade 2
Students focused on relating minutes, hours, and
days. We used a large demonstration clock to practice this skill. I asked
volunteers to come up and show me a certain time using the hour and minute hand.
Students learned how many minutes in an hour, and how you can count the minutes
on a clock.
Homework:
MMS – pg 58 – 60
Unit of Inquiry
Grade 1
Students made their own fossils today! We reviewed
what a fossil is from our discussions and video on Friday! Students then worked
to make their own fossil. Students were given clay and an object to make a mold
of. Once the students created their fossil, they drew a picture of what it
looked like. They loved this!
Grade 2
The
grade 2s have started making their own tv. commercial, which will be presented
this Wednesday. The two products our grade twos will be advertising are pencils
and bear paw cookies.
Language

Students continued to work on their phonics
skills using their Letter and Sounds workbooks. They worked on special blending
sounds, and recognizing vowels.
Homework

LS2: pg. 29 – 30
Spelling
Grade 1 & 2

their notebooks from the board.

word. After this, they worked in their spelling workbook.
