November 1, 2013

Happy Friday! I hope that everyone had a wonderful Halloween night! I just wanted to remind everyone that starting Monday, November 4th, 2013, there will be construction going on. The parking lot will be closed for approximately 2 weeks. Please be sure to park on the Campobello road if you are dropping your children off. For all the parents with children in grade 1, we will be going to the ROM on Wednesday, November 6th, 2013. Please make sure the permission forms and money are handed in no later than Tuesday, November 5th 2013. The grade 2’s will not be coming, because they study a different Unit of Inquiry, and will be attending the grade 2 field trips. Take a look at our day;

Math
Grade 1
Today in math class, I used a five-frame chart to explain to the students the importance of five, and how to use the number chart counter to count by fives.
I had many volunteers come up and show 3, 2, 4, and 7 on the five frame.
Homework:
MMS pg. 30

Grade 2
Today in class we explored time! I asked a series of questions that made the students really think about how long a task would take. After this we used various ways of measuring time.
Homework:
MMS: pg. 56 – 57

Unit of Inquiry
Grade 1
Today in class we read a fossil book.  We looked over some pictures of fossils together. We then discussed what fossils are and the different kind of fossils there can be. Students completed the What is a Fossil? Worksheet.

Grade 2
The grade 2 finished the week by completing the print ad portion of their media book. A big thanks to everyone who remembered to bring their print ad into class

Spelling TEST!
Both grades completed their weekly spelling test.

Language
Grade 1 & 2
Students worked on their phonics skills in their Letters and Sounds workbooks. We reviewed the same things we have been working on all week. Such as, the importance of creating detailed sentences, compound words, suffixes, and rhyming words.

Phonics Fun!
We played some phonics games today!

Journal
Grade 1 & 2
Students had a chance to create their own story! I started it for them and it was the student’s job to create a story. The sentence starter was “It was a dark and stormy night…..”.

Have a very god weekend everyone!!!
