Math 

Grade 1

The grade 1’s worked on some bar-graph and some pictographs sheets. I want to make sure the grade 1’s really grasp this concept before we move on.

Grade 2 

The grade two’s completed their review today in class, and had a chance to ask any questions they had regarding the test on Monday.

Grade 1

Today the grade 1’s were given a chance to practice their radio ads. I also had them look over their radio commercials. I also had them look over the words they used to describe their commercials.

Grade 2 

The grade 2’s also started a brand new unit of inquiry as well!

Grade 1

The students practiced their basic math skills in their arithmetic workbooks today.

A1: pgs. 134 – 137

Grade 2 

The grade 2’s got their math review today. We went over it as a class, and the grade 2’s got a chance to work on their review in class.

Grade 1

The grade 1’s got to listen to a radio broadcast! Then we analyzed it today as a class. Then the students worked in groups to make their radio aid.

Grade 2 

Language 

Both grade 1's and 2's worked on their phonics today in their Language workbooks.

Language

Today we read a story, and the students had to “retell” what happened in the beginning, in the middle, and the end. The students also had to recognize the characters, the problem, and the solution. This format relates to the DRA assessments. It is very good practice for the students.

The students got a chance to finish their birthday cards for Eeyore.

Looking at the big math books, the children had to interpret a graph. Then students had to make their very own graph using pictures. Then they worked in their Math Makes Sense workbooks.

Together we looked at a video of a car, and the children got a chance to design their very own car. They got really creative for this!

Grade 2 

Today the grade 2’s continued learning about ancient Greece, and the origins of the Olimpic games. New additions were added to our Olympic fold sheet. 

Language 

Both grade 1's and 2's worked on their phonics today in their Letter and Sounds workbooks.

We reviewed chapter 6 and what Eeyore did for his birthday. The students got a chance to make their very own birthday cards for Eeyore.

Good morning everyone! I just wanted to remind everyone of the Gala, which will take place on February 22, 2014. Its going to be a great, and I really hope to see you all there :) I also hope that everyone will be coming to the Science Center on Wednesday, February 12^th, 2014. Both the grade 1’s and 2’s will both be attending this trip as it pertains to inventions and structures! The cost is 20$ per child, and I am looking for 2 parent volunteers to come as well. Please see the letter that went home with the children.

Today we read a book about Henry Ford, and how he invented the car. They then completed a reading comprehension worksheet, designed their own colour combination for their car.

Grade 2 

The grade 2’s learned about Ancient Greek society today, and related it to some of the events which are played in the Olypimc games. They found this super interesting.

Both grade 1's and 2's worked on their phonics today in their Language workbooks.

We read the rest of chapter 6 in our Winnie the Pooh novel. Later the students had to “re-tell” the most important events in the chapter using a worksheet.
