Good evening
parents. Just a reminder that tomorrow is casual day at St. Judes Academy. I
know I said yesterday on my blog that you have to pay a dollar for casual day,
but all the parents have already paid for this. So please do not send a dollar
with your child. Here is a look at our day today;
Math:
Grade 1
We reviewed the
place value system together has a class, and counting with bigger numbers. They
also reviewed moving direction. They practiced these skills in their Arithmetic
book.
Homework: A1 - pg.
21 -22
Grade 2
The grade 2 also
reviewed the place value system as I feel they needed a recap on it. They also
worked on telling time, and addition and subtraction problem solving.
Homework: Pg. 12 –
13
UOI
Grade 1
Students designed
a poster based on a classroom rule. They had to state the rule, draw and colour
a picture to promote that rule and explain why we use it in the classroom. This
was done individually, as I was curious to see what rule the children chose as
the most important one.
Grade 2
Students used the
information from the graphic organizer from last class to write a postcard from
Venice to a friend from home. The grade 2’s focused on information that is
different than Mississauga so they were able to make a connection using their
own personal experience.
Novel Study
Grade 1 &2
Today in our novel
study, we focused on making connection with the texts. I have found that with
most students, they have no trouble reading, but they have a harder time making
“text-self connections”. We worked on this based on chapter 1 and chapter 2 of
our novel, “Flat Stanley”.
Language
Grade 1
The grade 1’s
worked on short vowel sounds again, as well as plural words, and comprehension.
They practiced these skills in their Language book. They also practiced their
cursive writing.
Homework: Language
1 – pg. 14 – 15
HWT: pg. 18
Grade 2
The grade 2’s
worked on understanding how to count syllables, and they continued finishing
sentences using details. They practiced this in their Language workbook.
Homework: Language
2– pg. 12 -13
