Hello Parents,
Hope everyone is having a wonderful Monday. I
am sorry that my picture I posted on Friday covered the homework blog. I removed the picture on Saturday, so
hopefully everyone got the information they needed. There are some exciting
events this week at St. Judes Academy. Firstly, Wednesday is a casual day, so
if the students donate a dollar they do not have to wear their uniform.
Thursday morning is the Terry Fox Run, which begins at 10:00am, and finishes at
11:30am. Please send your children to school in their gym uniform that day. I
will try and take some pictures for everyone J Here is a
look at our day;
Math
Grade 1
The students completed their unit test on
sorting and patterning. They did a great job.
Grade 2
The grade two’s were pulled out the classroom
for a lesson on counting. This was the launch for the new unit. As a class we
reviewed how to skip count by 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s. They were great and this, and
they are all ready to begin the new unit. We also discussed the importance of
numbers and all the different things we use numbers for. All students completed
their homework in the classroom.
UOI
Grade 1
This week we are focusing on the importance
of rules. Before we started todays lesson, I put a pile of paperclips in front
of the students, and asked them what kind of game we could create using
paperclips. Together we made up some “Rules”. This was great because the
students were able to realize that without rules, we have no order. As a class
we discussed why rules were so important and where we see them.

Novel Study
Grade 1/2
Today we read and talked about chapter three
in the novel “Flat Stanley”. The children really love this book! We filled out
a worksheet that allowed the students to reflect about what its like to be
flat, and how they would feel if they themselves where flat. Parents, students
love this novel! It might be a good one to read for “Snuggle up and Read”.
Spelling
Both grade 1’s and grade 2’s got their new
spelling words today. Both grades had to write each word out 3 times, and write
a sentence for each word. Then, they had to complete their spelling work in
their workbooks.
Homework:
Grade 1
Sentences for each word
Spelling A – pg. 13 – 16
Grade 2
Sentences for each word
Spelling B – pg. 13 – 16
Grade 1:
Parents, this LS section is written in the
students agenda, however we needed more time for the math test, so we used this
language period to finish up. So please disregard this homework tonight. We
will work on it tomorrow.
LS – pg. 15 – 16
Grade 2:
The grade twos had to silently read, and
explain to me the main characters in the book they were reading. As we did
this, I completed assessments to see what reading level the students are
currently raeding at.

Have a great night!
