Hello Parents! Now that casual day is over, all we have to
remember is the Terry Fox run will take place tomorrow from 10:00am to 11:30
am. Please send your children to school in their gym clothes tomorrow. I also sent home math and spelling tests
today, please sign and send back. There is a lunch form that I sent home
concerning Monday, September 30th 2013. This day got missed so if
you would like to pay for your child’s lunch that day, please send it back as
it is not included in the lunch program for September. Here is what we did
today!
Math
Grade 1
Today we began our new unit in math, which is focused on
number patterns. I think it is great because they just finished the patterning
unit, so they already have been practicing how to create patterns and how to
finish them. We looked at how we see patterns using numbers. Together we worked
on the bunny rabbit question, and then they finished it in their Math Makes
Sense books.
Homework: pg. 140 – 141
Grade 2
Students continued reviewing the importance of numbers and
everything that we use numbers for on a daily basis. We practiced how to skip
count by 2’s, 5’s. 10’s. We connected this with the place value system and
looked at how we can represent numbers in different ways.
WORKSHEETS: “LineMaster 3”
MMS: pg. 30
UOI
Grade 1
Students were given a scenario that stated a certain rule
that was very extreme, and not realistic. In groups, students fixed the rules,
and thought of more realistic ones for that particular situation. They had to act this out in front of the
class, and we had a class discussion on the rules that the students created. We
have a very dramatic bunch! They love to act J
Grade 2
The grade 2s were introduced to Japan today and had to find
it on the world map. Students had to plot Japan on their world map worksheet.
They were then divided into groups and each group was given information about food,
clothing, transportation, shelter, leisure and other important information. As
a group they had to read this information and present it to the class. They
then filled out graphic organizer worksheet about Japan.
French: Mme. Stella
Novel Study
Grade 1 & 2
We recapped what we have read so far in our novel “Flat
Stanley”. Like I mentioned yesterday, most of the students had trouble making
text to self-connections. We went through this again today and finished and
corrected the flat Stanley work from yesterday.
Gym: Mr. Browning
Art: Ms. Pattenick
Language
Grade 1 & 2
Both grades reviewed the consonant sounds. We are slowly moving
from vowels to consonant bends now, and practicing what sound they make
together. I find this really helps with their reading skills. They practiced in
their Letter and Sounds workbook.
Homework:
Grade 1: LS – pg. 17 – 18
Grade 2: LS – pg. 11 – 13
Quiet Reading
Grade 1 & 2
Both grades got to silently read today as I completed more
DRA assessments.
Have a great evening everyone!
Terry Fox Run tomorrow!
