Good evening parents! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!
Today was a great day. Everyday students are getting more and more used to
classroom routines, which makes me happy! Here is what our day looked like;
UOI
Grade 1:
This week the grade ones are learning about “Responsibility”
and how defines who we are. Today we watched the “Responsibility Song” in
class, and then we talked about what responsibility means. In groups they had
to think of things they were responsible for at school and present it to the
class.
NO HOMEWORK
Grade 2:
Students continued writing
their letter to a family member who wants to visit (what to pack/expect).
Student used information about the features of their community to their letter.
They described their community using information about food, clothing, shelter,
transportation and leisure.
NO HOMEWORK
Math
Grade 1
Students got themselves into
a pattern. Other students had to define the pattern; they had to join the
pattern. They also worked in groups and used the snap cubes to make a group
pattern and define it. The grade 1’s also have a math test next Monday on
sorting and patterning. They should be reviewing their work.
Homework: MMS – pg. 10-12
Math
Grade 2
Students continued to show we
what they knew regarding sorting and patterns. They practiced explained these
things in preparation for the test on Friday. They are doing a great job
reviewing what they know.
Read Aloud
Both grades. Today we did a
read a loud and began to describe the main parts of a story, especially
characters. Character development is something I would like to focus on this
week as we through our novel study.
Spelling:
Grade 1
Today the grade ones got a
new set of spelling words. They had to write them in their spelling journals 3
times, and form a sentence for each one. They also have to work in their
spelling notebook to practice using these words.
Homework: Spelling A – pg.

– 12
Language
Grade 1
Students will complete Test
1 in their letters and sounds test booklet.
Homework: Letters and Sounds
pg. 10 -11
Grade 2
The grade two’s worked on
their cursive writing while the grade 1’s did their test.
Homework: HWT pg. 15
Just to remind all parents
that if your child does not bring home a textbook for a certain subject that
means they completed their homework in class. Even if they have it written down
in their agenda. We are doing agendas earlier in the day now as I find that
they focus more. I am also sending home their “Snuggle up and Read” notebooks
tonight. My goal is to encourage students to read, even for a few minutes a
night. Have a great evening everyone!
