Happy Friday parents! Hope you had a wonderful week! We did have a lot of work this week, but this weekend is a much lighter workload. Here is a look at our day!

*Just so you know, I changed the math period to first thing in the morning because I find they focus way more. *

Math
Grade 1
Today in math I noticed that only 4 people brought in their pattern booklet back to work on. I was going to go around and work on any questions they may have had trouble with. However, because a lot of booklets were missing, we were not able to do this. So we worked on creating patterns together as a class using worksheets. Everyone brought home a “Thanksgiving Pattern Worksheet” so you can see how he or she did. I also gave everyone gingerbread girls and boys to cut out and make different patterns with. They should be in a zip lock bag so they can practice at home.
HOMEWORK: Study for test on Monday

Grade 2
The grade two’s were taken out of the room with Mr. Monaghan so they had a quite space to write their test today.
NO HOMEWORK

UOI
Grade 1
The grades had so much in UOI today. We have been talking about responsibility and the different responsibilities they have as St. Judes Academy Students. We made responsibility flowers today. They got to glue a stem and the center of a flower to a background. They cut out petals that were attached to the bottom of the paper. We discussed that every time a student demonstrates an act of responsibility they get to put a petal up on the flower. These flowers will be up for a while so we can keep track.

Grade 2
The students in grade 2 today investigated Italy (human and physical geography)
They had to guess where they were after observing clothing, food, shelter. This was done as a class. They then had to plot Italy on our class map and individual world map.

Language

Both grades reviewed the importance of an exclamation mark and why it is different from other punctuation marks. We read a great story that explained the difference in a very fun and excited way. We had a great classroom discussion and the students practiced how to read with expression.
NO HOMEWORK

Grade 1
The grade ones also practiced their phonics skills in their language notebooks. We are working on the different vowel blends and how to read them properly. (short and long vowel sounds)
HOMEWORK: L1 - pg. 12-13

Grade 2
The grade twos continued to work on their sentence skills. They are improving on finishing sentences correctly. They are starting to be very detailed, which is great! They practiced this skill in their language book.
Homework: L2 - Pg. 10 – 11

Journal
The journal is something that I would like to do every Friday. Now that the class is getting used to finishing work during class time, we are able to use this time at the end of the day for reflection, which I believe is an important part of being a student. Today’s topic was “What changes happen in Fall? What are your favorite things about fall?” The students are encouraged to write 3 full sentences and a picture.

Have a VERY GREAT weekend!

Ms. Rossi
