Good evening everyone. Just a reminder that the lunch forms is due Next Friday on the September 27th 2013. Hope everyone is excited for the weekend! This is what we did today;

UOI
Grade 1
Today we discussed what goals are and how they are related to responsibility. Students will write and complete “My Goals” sheet for the year. Then we discussed as a class long and short-term goals.
NO HOMEWORK

Grade 2
The students had to locate Asia, Africa, Europe, South America, North America and Australia on maps and plot. They also discussed why natural resources, food may be different. Students prepared for a trip around the world by making passports and packing magic suitcases. Students recognized that what we pack will depend on where we go (ie. Pack different things for different locations)
Climates: tropical (high temp, rain), cold (snow and ice), hot (warm temperature). They had fun with this!

Math
Grade 1
We practiced counting to 20 and we also compared two numbers and identified the numbers that are greater. Students will also practice completing a changing pattern, as well as addition problems.
Homework:
Students will complete their Test for Arith. 1 (tests and drills books)
Arithmetic 1: pg. 19-20
Math Test Review: We will take this up this tomorrow.

Math
Grade 2
The grade two’s practiced addition, subtraction, problem solving, and place value. The rest of the period was used to review information for the math test, which I feel was a great way to prepare them for tomorrow. I took some students aside and discussed the some questions they had regarding the test today.
Homework:
A2 : pg. 10-11
Study for math test.

Language:
Grade 1
Students will review the importance of the exclamation mark, and why it is different from the period. They will practice their phonic skills in the Letter and Sounds workbook. They will also be working on their handwriting skills in their workbook.
Homework: Pg. 16-17

Grade 2
The grade twos learned the importance of diagrams and more importantly the importance of labeling them correctly. I found they had trouble with reading diagrams when it comes to math. They will also practice their phonics skills in their “Letter and Sounds” workbook.
Homework:
Ontario Writing = OW – Pg. 3-5
LS: pg. 9 – 10

Cursive Writing
Both grade practiced their cursive skills, which I believe is allowing them to feel more comfortable. My goal is to have the class writing in cursive soon.
Homework:
Grade 1 – HWT pg. 14-15
Grade 2 – HWT pg. 18

Have a great night everyone! The weekend is almost here J
