Blog 11

Good evening parents! Sorry for the late post! My internet at home was not working! Hope everyone is doing well. Today in class we did a lot of work, and I gave them to have a lot of class time to complete it. Everyone did a wonderful job. Just a reminder that the “October Lunch Program” forms went home for anyone who is interested in getting hot lunch. These forms are due before September 27th 2013.  Here is a look at our day.

UOI
Grade 1:
Students played a game to test their unit knowledge thus far! In groups children played answered a variety of questions based on what we have learned to far. For every question they answered correctly, they receive a letter. What group got to “Responsible” first won the game. We had a lot of fun doing this!
NO HOMEWORK

Grade 2:
The grade two’s leaned about villages all over the world today. They stared off by watching a little video, then listened to a story. We focused on food, clothing, nationality and languages to understand the various types of villages. They then created a class graph based on the idea of the “St. Judes Academy Village”.
NO HOMEWORK

Math
Grade 1:
Today we worked on problem solving questions! As a class we used the picture in the Big Math Book and defined the problem together. I gave students questions that helped to define the problem. They then used snap cubes to solve another problem in their notebooks.
Homework: MMS pg. 13-14

Grade 2:
Today the students took a look at their and Math Makes Sense Notebooks. They had to put a star beside questions that they still did not understand, which helped them study for their test on Friday. They also time to go through the math review in class just in case they had any other further questions. We will be taking up the review together tomorrow for our final review.
Homework: STUDY

Language:
Today both grade 1 and 2 students learned the importance of the exclamation mark, and when to use it. This also tied into the importance of reading with expression. Students practiced skills in their language book:

Homework
Grade 1
L1 – pg. 9 – 10

Grade 2
L2 – pg. 8 – 9

Spelling
Students in both grade 1 and 2 should be reviewing their spelling words every night for their test on Friday.

IB World
Along with our UOI, there are others IB activities we focus on. For example, every month we focus on a leaner profile. For September, the learner profile is “Open-Minded”. As a class we read a book and discussed how the main character showed the trait “Open-Minded” After this we discussed more of what it meant, and we voted the one students within the class that showed this trait the most in the month of September. If parents are curious what the other traits are. Please refer to my blog. They are listed are green and purple under the title “IB Learner Profile”

Have a great night!
