Thursday, October 24, 2013

Hi everyone! Just reminding all parents that picture day is on Monday the 28th and that all parents should send children to school in their full uniform. Also, the playground is being renovating beginning November 4th, 2013. The rest of the playground and the parking lot is getting paved, which mean there will be no parking lot for a couple weeks. There will be a letter sent home explaining the process during this time; I just wanted to give you all a heads up. Here is a look at what we did today in class.

Math
Grade 1
As a class we reviewed place value (ones’ and tens’), counting by tens, comparing numbers, ordinal numbers, word problems, subtraction, counting dimes, calendar dates, adding on one number, fact families.
Homework:
A1: pgs. 45-48.

Grade 2
Arithmetic 2: Lesson 20 and 21
As a class we reviewed bar-graphs, problem solving sills, addition, subtraction, and fact families.
Homework:
A2:  pgs. 36 – 38

UOI
Grade 1
Today the grade ones continued to learn about dinosaurs. Now that they have learned about herbivores and carnivores, the students will learn about omnivores today! We will be watching a video found on the Discovery Chanel discussing the differences between the three different kinds of eaters. As a class we discussed the
different kinds of animals (herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores) We then discussed some dinosaurs who are omnivores. Students then completed a worksheet to classify dinosaur carnivores and herbivores.

Grade 2
The grade twos joined Ms. Dacosta’s class again in the smart board room for some more literacy media fun!

Language
Grade 1
Today both the grade ones and the grades twos worked on their phonics in their language books.
Homework
Grade 1
Language 1 pgs. 33-34
Grade 2
Language 2 pgs. 26-27

Grade 1 & 2
Today in class we listened to a story called Pipkin. This story talks about Pipkin the Inquirer, and then we related this to how we are inquirers as well. The learner profile for this month was “Inquirer”, so I felt this story really helped the students to connect to this.

We will read Dinosaurs Love Underpants! Then the students wrote about their favourite part of the story and then coloured in their underpants! (making a booklet).

Cursive Writing
The students worked on their cursive writing today in their books. I would like all students to start cursive writing soon.
Homework:
Grade 1: HWT: pg. 34 – 35
Grade 2: HWT : pg. 26 – 27

Have a great evening everyone!
Ms. Rossi
