Hello everyone! Hope all are excited for the weekend! I just
wanted to mention that if you are purchasing tickets for the fall festival,
parents must purchase them as well. Here is a look at our day today;
Math
Grade 1
Today the grade 1’s learned a doubles rap. As
a class we rapped together.
They learned that a doubles fact is when you
add the same number together. (2+2=4)
The students made their own doubles book and
filled it out. We then went over the MMS homework pages together on the board
before students complete MMS pgs. 153-155.
Homework: MMS – pg. 153-155
Grade 2
The grade 2’s focused how to estimate using
groups of 10. We started off using paperclips (57) on a tray. I asked “Do you
think they are fewer than 50 or more than 50 paperclips”. As a group, the
students will make one group of 10, and then I asked “Does anyone want to
change their answer?” “How can we count paperclips?” (1s,2s,5s,10s). As a class
we counted the paperclips together using groups of 10’s.
Homework: MMS – PG. 40-42
UOI
Grade 1
Unit of Inquiry: Summative Project is due
today! Students handed in their summative projects today. Student presentations
started today for the UOI. Half of the class presented their UOI today.
Grade 2
Grade
two's finished their rough copies today and moved onto their good copies of
their final culminating assignment. Seeing lots of good ideas about these
countries starting to come to life. Tomorrow they will have a chance to finish
any incomplete portions and then present their country and ideas to the class!
Read Aloud:
Grade 1 & 2
Both grades listened to a story today called
“How big is your pumpkin. I really enjoy reading with this group. As I read,
there are a number of questions I ask in order to promote reading
comprehension. The connections that the students make with some of these books
are great! The students will then have a chance to silently read.
Novel Study
Grade 1 & 2
Both grades will have a chance to write a
letter to Flat Stanley himself. They will ask him to come to Ontario for their
very own adventure. The students are encouraged to ask him questions, and tell
him things about themselves.
Language
Grade 1
The students are working on special sounds,
writing out the correct words with pictures, compound words.
Homework: LS 1 – pg. 27-29
Grade 2
The students are working on special sounds
and identifying words that have these special sounds.
Homework:
LS 2: pg. 19 – 20
Have a wonderful evening!
