Hello parents! I hope that everyone had a very good weekend! It seems that a little bit of a cold is going around the classroom, so I am making sure that all kids use hand sanitizer before and after lunch, and especially after gym class. Picture day is a week today! So all students need to come dressed in full “Fall” uniform on that Monday. Here is a look at our day today;

Math

Grade 1

Today was the Number Pattern Unit test for the grade 1’s. I noticed that it took them a while to complete, so we will use some of our math class tomorrow to complete it. We will begin a new unit on Wednesday.

Grade 2

Today the grade 2’s worked on problem solving. We went through some ways that you can solve problems. Especially, the tactic that involves using the information you already know to help you find the information that you need to know. We also used the patterns seen in an 100’s chart t help you. The grade 2’s will have a unit test on Monday, October 28^th, 2013.

UOI

Grade 1

Today in our Unit of Inquiry, we learned about dinosaur names and how to pronounce them. We listened to a short song before that really got them excited; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1O_pZClyrc.

We then went over the prefixes and suffixes of some dinosaurs, which helped the students to understand how to correctly pronounce their names. We read over the dinosaur pronunciation word cards and talked about the differences in sizes using a storybook. They were really into this!

Grade 2

 Today Grade twos shared what media forms they saw over the weekend. The Grade twos then defined what a purpose is, and went through their day and explained what the purpose was for their activities including the purpose of school! This is to prepare for tomorrows lessons when we find the purpose of different types of media.

Language

Grade 1

The students worked on their phonics today. As a class we reviewed filling in missing letters, blends, and special sounds.

Grade 2

The students worked on their phonics today. As a class we reviewed vowel sounds, special blends, and finishing sentences.

Spelling

Grade 1

Students wrote out their spelling words in their notebooks from the board.

Students then had to complete a sentence for each word in their notebooks.
