Hi parents! Hope everyone had a wonderful long weekend! Just
a reminder that the uniform has now changed, and polo’s are no longer
acceptable. For those returning parents, I just wanted to let you know that the
mock turtlenecks will no longer be acceptable as well. I will be conducting
phone calls this week to discuss student’s progress so far this year. If you
would like to send me a time that works best for you, that might makes things a
little easier. Here is a look at our day;
Math
Grade 1
Before the students tried the “Shake and Spill activity” on their
own, we did a couple examples of how to play first at the carpet. Students then played shake and spill! Students used snap cubes to
count how many cubes spilled into the carpet, and then made addition and
subtraction sentences with the amount they had. We shared our sentences
together as a class using a handout. They all did a great job at this. Students then had to make their own
subtraction and addition sentences in the book, which was a little more
difficult but they are off to a good start.
Homework
MMS: pg. 156-158
Grade 2
Students focused on on how to identify compare,
and order numbers to 100. As a group, we practiced counting together. I asked
them various questions that dealt with missing numbers. Together we counted by
2’s, then 5’s, then 10’s until 100. We also discussed the importance of knowing
what comes before and after particular numbers. They had no problems with this!
Homework
MMS: Pg. 43 -44
UOI
Grade 1
Today was very exciting because we started a
new unit! We have now moved on to “Where we are in place and time.” We are
going prehistoric! We did a picture sort today, which serves as a diagnostic
tool for me to see how the students already know about dinosaurs. Students had
to sort various dinosaur names, pictures, food items in groups. They were not told
a particular way to sort, which means they had to complete it on their own and
pick a way to sort and then share with the class. We then shared and discussed
what we sorted. We then talked about our new unit, and the central idea.
Grade 2
As
the presentations came to an end today we took one last review of the things we
have learned in the "How We Organize Ourselves"
French – Mme. Stella
Language
Grade 1
Students focused on punctuation-periods,
rhyming words, comprehension, completing sentences.
Homework
Language 1 pgs. 27-28.
Grade 2
Students will be focusing on the importance of details in a
sentence. On the board I had examples of sentences that were written fully, and
sentences that were written incomplete, then we will sort this as a class
Homework:
L2 – pg. 22-23
Gym – Mr. Browning
Art – Ms. Pattenick
Spelling
Grade 1 & 2
Both grades got a new list of words today.
They had to write them out 3 times in their spelling notebooks, and make
sentences using each word. They then practiced using their words in their
spelling workbooks.
Grade 1 Homework:
Spelling A: pg. 29-32
Grade 2 Homework:
Spelling B: pg. pg. 25 – 28
Have a great evening everyone! I will be
talking with you soon!
Ms. Rossi
