Good evening parents! Just a reminder that Halloween is
tomorrow and the students may dress up their costumes if they would like.
Please do not send children to school with any weapons that may come with the
costume. Also, please so not forget that the construction for the parking lot
will begin on November 4th. Please park on the street during this
time. We will have teachers out their in the morning to help direct students
into the building. Here is a look at our day today;
Math
Grade 1
The grade one worked on one and two more, and one and two
less. I have noticed that the students more practice with subtraction, so I
focused on this part a lot!
We played a game to find out the number rule. The students were
presented with different counter combinations of the same number (5 arranged
differently).
We went through sections of get started with students on the
overhead, along with a couple of examples.
Homework:
MMS pgs. 28-29
Grade 2
I explained to the students that we are beginning a new unit
and what types of things we will be studying . Together the class looked at the
big math book and I asked a series of questions that dealt with time and
temperature
Then as a class, we created a story based on the picture,
and time.
Homework:
Math Makes Sense:
Pgs. 53 – 55
UOI
Grade 1
We reviewed what a paleontologist does! We used smarties and
brown sugar to do our activity. Students worked in groups 2-3 students and they
got a chance to dig and discover smarties. Once they took their smarties out
they will counted them and recorded them in their ten frames on their
worksheet. They were also responsible for drawing a picture of their findings.
They also had to tally and write the number.
Grade 2
Today
the grade twos began work on their media book. In this book they will analyze
three different types of ads, a television ad (which we looked at today) a
radio ad, and a print ad. It is asked that the grade 2s bring in their own
print ad this Friday
Language
Children worked on their phonics in their language workbooks
today. We worked on the same skills we began the week with.
Homework
Grade 1:
Language
1 pgs. 39-40
Grade 2
Language 2: pgs. 33- 35
Grade 1 & 2
Today we read the story The Case of the Incapactiated
Capitals. As a class we went over when and why we use capitals since I have
noticed this seems to be a problem. Then, we went over rules for capitals and
recorded it on chartpaper. After this, the students picked 3 or 5 rules, and
wrote sentences using these rules in their journals.
Have a great night everyone!
Ms. Rossi
