Hello everyone. I
just have a quick announcement regarding after care. We are trying a new system
for the after care program. At 3:45 the teachers will be taking whoever is left
in the classroom into the gym as a class. At this time, we will be lining up in
the gym as a class, just like we do in the morning. It is very important to
understand that no parents will be allowed in the gym at this time. It got very
confusing trying to check students in and out at the same time. This procedure
will hopefully eliminate that confusion. So if you have children in after care,
please do no enter the gym after 3:45. If you come right after 3:45, Mrs. Smith
or myself will grab your child for you. Mrs. Smith and I run the after care
program together, so I need to be in the gym right at 3:45 to check students
in. If you have any concerns regarding your child, please do not hesitate to
contact me through email, or set up a meeting to do so. Unfortunately, I will
not be able to chat after school since my presence is needed in the gym. Thanks
for all your cooperation in this matter. J Now, here is a look at our day;
Math
Grade 1
Today, the grade
ones practiced their addition and subtraction skills in their Arithmetic
workbooks. They worked really hard to finish this in class, in the hope of no
homework this evening J
Homework:
A1 – PG. 25-26
Grade 2
Students reviewed the numbers that are “in between” as opposed to skip
counting. They also reviewed addition and subtraction, and they too worked
extremely hard to finish this in class.
A2 – pg. 16-17
UOI
Grade 1
I explained what
they needed to work on and what is expected for this page.
Then students will
work on their baby page of their timeline. They loved taking the trip back to
memory lane, and can’t wait to share this page on their timeline.
Grade 2
The grade 2s continued investigating
India today comparing life in India (clothing, shelter, food, transportation
and leisure activities) to life in Mississauga. We then took a look at our
summative assignment, which we will be working on in class over the next week
and a half. The rubric for the assignment has been sent home with students
tonight, it is asked that you read over the rubric with your child so they know
what is expected of them for this assignment.
Novel Study
Grade 1 and 2
Today for our
novel study, we filled out a “Text-to-Self” handout regarding chapter four in
the novel “Flat Stanley”. I am working hard with the class to increase reading
comprehension. I am looking for connections that students themselves can make
with the text.
No Homework
Language
Grade 1
Today we went over
the letter “L” in cursive writing. Now that it is October, I am encouraging
every to begin writing in cursive. They practiced this skill in their HWT
workbook.
Homework: pg.
21-22
Grade 2
The grade 2’s
learned the importance of reading maps today. We went over the most important
parts of map, like the legend, and why the writing is so small. They practiced these
skills in their OWT workbooks.
Homework:
OWT: pg. 6-9
The grade 2’s also
worked on sentence completion and consonant blends in their language books.
Homework:
LS – pg. 14 – 15
